Mo CBD installed permanent safety guardrail, pedestrians laughed and drivers cried

According to the Times, a lane at the intersection of Swanston and Flinders has been cancelled. It is understood that permanent safety posts have been installed before, Flinders Street Station.

Cars from St Kilda Road and from Swanston Street to Flinders Street will share the driveway with other right-turning drivers.

The permanent change, which is expected to begin on Monday, could allow drivers to travel again during peak hours.

Melbourne City said in a statement that following the implementation of the change at the junction, it was hoped that drivers would set aside "extra time" for passage in the area.

The carriageway of the intersection will remain.

Previously, one of the lanes across the road had been closed due to the construction of the Metro tunnel project and would not be reopened until four years later.

The city has promised no more construction between December 15 and January 5, which coincides with the busy pre-Christmas and post-Christmas shopping season.

The department concerned cost 50 million yuan to install permanent fixed guardrail in CBD. The construction of the Flinders Street station is also part of the project. Now, CBD has installed cement studs to protect behavior.

Cement pillars have been installed around Melbourne's CBD since a car crash in Bourke Street in 2017, killing six people and injuring many others.

The city on Wednesday detailed the changes around the corners of Flinders Street and Swanston Street, a plan first proposed by Police Commissioner Lisa Neville in September.

Mayor Sally Capp said the installation of stainless steel guardrail would add 130 square meters of track area in front of the Flinders Street station.

The construction will increase CBD's safety habits and increase pedestrian space at Melbourne's busiest pedestrian junctions.

Every day, more than 25,000 people use the crosswalk between Flinders Street Station and the bar Young and Jackson during peak hours.

The installation is expected to take a month and one of the crosswalks from Flinders Street Station to Union Square will be temporarily closed.

Flinders Street is Melbourne's busiest train station, with more than half a million passengers passing by every week.
