The latest quality of life ranking came out, and Melbourne plummeted to 17! Sydney fell to 11th place

The Mercer Quality of Living Ranking, is assessed on the basis of a survey published annually by Mercer Consulting in April. The survey covered 221 cities around the world. According to 39 criteria for each city, although Mercer's ranking is based on New York, the criteria include: politics, society, housing, recreation, environmental factors, personal safety, health, education, employment, Transportation, infrastructure and other public services.


According to investigation

  • In Western Europe, physical security has declined in a few cities, such as Athens, Madrid and Paris, due to past terrorist attacks and / or internal instability.

  • In Asia, most Chinese cities have improved in terms of physical safety.

Taking into account 39 factors affecting quality of life, Melbourne is rated one of the five most popular cities in the Pacific region for international staff.

The criteria for ranking personal safety include: internal stability, crime, law enforcement, restrictions on personal freedom, media and censorship.

Vienna, the Austrian capital, topped the list for the 10th consecutive year, followed by Switzerland's Zurich, Canada's Vancouver, New Zealand's Auckland and Germany's Munich.

Last year Melbourne lost its position as the world's most livable city and was replaced by Vienna, according to the Economist think-tank (Economist Intelligence Unit). In addition to robberies and teenage fights, recent shootings are a major security concern in Melbourne.
