The cost of living in Sydney is so high that it is common for divorced couples to become roommates

Sydney's high cost of living forced some divorced couples to continue living under the same roof, changing from "husband and wife" to "roommate".

Sydney resident (Katrina Loukas) and her ex-husband became roommates, the Daily Mail reported. They still live under the same roof after the divorce. As a mother of two, Loukas did not believe that the end of marriage meant the family would fall into chaos.

She said she just didn't want to maintain an expired relationship, but didn't mind living under the same roof, so she didn't want to live alone. "I realize we respect each other very much and care for each other's happiness," she said. "We had a good parenting partnership."

More importantly, in this case, their children can also have a stable life.

Financially, this lifestyle is also good for both Lauras and ex-husband.

Between 2016 and 2017, the number of Australians living with their predecessors increased by 10 percent, according to government data. She believes communication is crucial in choosing this lifestyle, whether it's paying bills, cleaning homes or picking up children.

Lawer Shaya Lewis-Dermody, an Australian family, said this "strange" lifestyle is now quite common due to Sydney's ultra-high cost of living. But she points out that this state of life will not last forever, especially when one of them finds a new lover.
