On Friday, two major supermarkets, Woolworths and Coles, announced that their stores would no longer supply plastic bags to customers, the Daily Mail reported.

It is understood that earlier this Friday, the Woolworths supermarket first announced that, with the exception of the states and territories that had already imposed a "plastic ban", it was located in (New South Wales), new state, as of June 30, 2018. Plastic bags will no longer be available at all stores in (Victoria), Victoria and (Western Australia), Western Australia, while (Queensland), Queensland, will not be included. The ban is also imposed by other supermarket brands owned by the Woolworths group, such as BIG W, BWS and online stores.

CEO Bandoshi (Brad Banducci) of Woolworths Group said in a statement that the group had pledged to follow customer advice and pursue environmentally sound policies. The supermarket would be able to reduce the use of 3.2 billion plastic bags a year, he said, adding that it would be useful to protect the environment.

The Woolworths Group said it would provide customers with other options for shopping bags, including reusable eco-friendly bags.

A few hours later, Coles also announced that stores in Kunzhou, New, Victoria and Western Australia would phase out plastic bags over the next 12 months.

The supermarket said Coles had been working for months to phase out plastic shopping bags, and stores in (Tasmania), South Australia, the northern territory of (Northern Territory), and (ACT), the capital state, no longer offer plastic bags to customers.

McDowell (Simon McDowell), Coles's chief customer service officer, said the supermarket understood the convenience of customers who liked disposable shopping bags, so they would also offer other options for customers who forgot to bring them.
