After July 1, 15 important things happened in Australia

June has arrived, which means that a new fiscal year will soon begin and a series of new regulations will come into effect from the beginning of the new fiscal year.

These new rules concern every aspect of our daily life, whether you are a foreign student or an office worker, there is always a rule that will affect you, so you have to look carefully.

1. Increase in the minimum wage

Australia's minimum wage was raised by 3.5% from $18.29 an hour to $18.93.

As a result, the weekly salary increased from $694.90 to $719.2 (38 hours a week), or $24.30 more per week.

2. The overtime pay on Sunday is reduced.

Last year the, Fair Work Commission announced a reduction in overtime allowances for employees in the hotel services, retail and fast-food industries across Australia on Sundays and statutory holidays.

The details are as follows:

Sunday overtime pay for fast-food and hotel workers fell by 5 percent from July 1 to 10 percent from July 1 this year and next July 1. In the end, it will fall from 175% to 150%.

Sunday overtime pay for retail and pharmacy workers fell by 5 percent from July 1 to 15 percent a year as of July 1 this year. By 2020, it will fall from 200% to 150%.

For students who plan to go to work on Sundays to earn some living expenses, the policy can really hurt their wallets.

For example, if you work in a retail store, your Sunday salary is currently close to $39 an hour, but with a cut of $29 an hour, eight hours a day, you lose $80, or 50 weeks a year, almost $4000 less.

3. Supermarkets no longer offer free plastic bags

With effect from July 1, all Woolworths,Big W, Metro, BWS and Coles will no longer offer free disposable plastic bags (some stores in Victoria are already in operation).

In other words, the days of free plastic bags will soon be far away from us.

If you go to the supermarket later, you either have to bring your own shopping bag, or you have to pay for a thick plastic bag or canvas bag that can be reused.

4. $50 increase in Victoria garbage charges

Since China announced a ban on imports of recyclable materials on January 1, government across Australia has had to renegotiate waste collection contracts with local waste-disposal companies. The US state's government has set aside A $13 million for an emergency transition to deal with rising costs of garbage disposal.

But after July 1, the local Council can only find a way to bear the additional costs. As many as 72 Council in Victoria could raise garbage charges, such as an extra A $50 a year per household.

5. Victorian taxi prices rise by A $1

With effect from July 1 this year, Victoria's taxi drivers will be able to start charging more, meaning that everyone's fares will rise by A $1, or more, each time, because the Victoria State ESC (basic Services Council) ruled that Taxi drivers have the right to pass on the Australian dollar taxi tax and GST. introduced by government, Victoria

The money is also a compensation for taxi licence holders, who have been hit hard by legalizing carpooling services such as Uber.

Of course, after July 1, rental car, Uber and other car-sharing services need to pay an additional A $1 taxi tax.

6, free of charge $50

From July 1 through December 31, residents can receive $50 per household as long as they register with victorianenergysaver.vic.gov.au, the energy comparison website in government, Victoria.

There are no conditions, as long as the registration, you can receive.

7, overseas collection tax

With effect from July 1 this year, Australia's government will completely abolish the duty-free policy of overseas online purchases below $1000, and impose a 10% consumption tax on all overseas products. (GST). Will be levied on all overseas products.

That is, in the future, regardless of whether you are shopping through eBay, Alibaba or shopping on ASOS,Amazon, and no matter how much you buy, you will have to pay a 10% consumption tax.

So, in the future, if you go overseas, you'll have to spend more money!

And it's a direct result.

8. Amazon "blocks" Australia

From July 1 this year, all Amazon's international platforms will not be available in Australia!

In the future, as long as you are in Australia, no matter which of the following web sites you enter:

Amazon, USA: https://www.amazon.com

Amazon, UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk

Amazon, Japan: https://www.amazon.co.jp

All will be skipped to Australia's local Amazon: Amazon.com.au

The reason is also very simple, Amazon does not want to carry a cross-border tax on this pot.

Although in order to make up for everyone, Amazon Australia will add a "global store" section, from the United States Amazon website, select 4 million items for you to buy, but, compared with up to 500 million items on Amazon in the United States, 4 million is really just a fur.

Therefore, there is a need for friends to buy while now, or after July 1, not only the choice will be less, spending money will be more.

9, new immigration visa online

Starting in July, Australia's government will try out a new "employer-guaranteed visa" designed to help Australian companies attract "highly skilled people".

With regard to such new visas, there are the following known requirements:

The annual turnover of employers' enterprises is more than 4 million Australian dollars;

The annual salary for the "highly skilled person" is more than $180000;

Visa applicants have 3 years of relevant work experience;

Employers need to prove that they have tried to give priority to local workers in Australia, and that the introduction of highly skilled people from abroad can benefit Australian workers.

Startups looking for highly skilled people in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) can also guarantee such visas. The visa does not require start-up turnover, any start-up authorized by an industry agency can, but is selected by government.

There is no limit on the number of new visas issued, but there are limits on the number of people who can be employed by employers:

Employers with annual turnover of more than A $4 million can employ up to 20 highly skilled overseas talents per year;

Start-ups can hire up to five highly skilled overseas talent a year.

The visa is valid for four years and the visa holder can apply for a permanent resident visa after working in Australia for three years.

In other words, this visa is available for PR!

10. Migrant benefits waiting period may be extended

Australia's government plans to extend the waiting period for new immigrants to receive some benefits from two years to four years, which means a full two-year reduction in benefits for new immigrants.

The policy now needs to be passed by parliament, but once it is passed, it will be implemented from July 1 this year.

These benefits relate to the caregiver's allowance, (Carers Allowance), paid maternity allowance, (paid parental leave), and the family tax benefit, (Family Tax Benefit), unemployment benefit, (Newstart), etc., and so on. If they are eligible, they will be lost for at least a few thousand dollars a year.

11. child care allowance reform

From July 2 this year, Australia's government will integrate the two current child care benefits-Child Care Benefit (CCB) and Child Care Rebate (CCR)-into a "Child Care Subsidy" (CCS).

The higher the household income, the less subsidies it receives.

For example:

For families earning less than $65710, the amount of subsidy they receive can cover 85 per cent of their childcare expenses;

For families with incomes between $170710 and $250000, the amount of the subsidy may cover 50 per cent of their childcare costs;

Families earning more than $350000 will no longer receive subsidies.

For households earning less than $185000 a year, the subsidy cap of A $7500 was lifted. For families earning more than $185000 a year, increase the maximum allowance per child per fiscal year from $7500 to $10,000.

Parents need to pay special attention to the fact that families currently receiving child care allowance CCB or CCR are not automatically covered by the CCS subsidy.

In other words, before CCS takes effect on July 2, you must log in to your Centrelink account at myGov and fill in an online assessment form or application form for receiving the CCS subsidy so that you can receive the new subsidy.

12. you can't wear glasses when you apply for a passport

From July 1 this year, you must take off your glasses when you apply for an Australian passport.

If there are special reasons, such as severe sensitivity to light, recent eye surgery, etc., it may be possible to take photos with glasses if there is a diagnosis. But the general vision disorder must take off the glasses.

The aim of the new rule is to further enhance the integrity of Australian passports.

According to the survey, glasses are a hindrance to passport facial recognition, and facial recognition can be greatly improved without glasses.

Well, seeing this rule, Xiao Wei silently supported his black-framed glasses.

13405 visa cancellation

The original plan is that from July 1 this year, Australia's government will cancel the 405th type of investment retirement visa (Investor Retirement visa).

The Investment Retirement Visa is a type of immigration channel through which Australian quasi-permanent residence can be obtained by investing in government bonds. It is specially introduced by the Immigration Board for applicants over the age of 55, and can be renewed indefinitely for four years each time. There is no requirement for immigration supervision. At the same time, access to Australia's top private health care, is the preferred mode of immigration for many people.

But on May 30 this year, the 405 retirement visa has been temporarily closed since June 1, and no new applications have been accepted. Only 405 visa holders or former 405 visa holders can apply for renewal.

After that, there was one less way to emigrate to Australia.

14, wage real-time system

With effect from July 1, 2018, the Australian Inland Revenue Department has forced companies with 20 or more employees to adopt the pay-in-time system (Single Touch Payroll).

After using this system, you have to provide salary information to the Australian Inland Revenue Department every time you pay your employees, including salary amounts, allowances, deductions (such as charitable donations deducted from pre-tax wages) and other offsets. PAYG withheld taxes and pensions.

15, pension

To encourage older people over 65 to reduce their housing size, from July 1 this year, people over 65 can deposit the proceeds of housing sale into pension accounts, up to $300, 000. This part of the contribution is not included in the pre-tax or after-tax contributions ceiling, and does not need to meet the existing maximum age limit or other conditions.

Furthermore, as of 1 July this year, a person receiving a pension or disability benefit (Disability Support Pension) must meet the following conditions:

Living in Australia for a continuous period of 10 years, of which at least 5 years are at work; o

Live in Australia for a continuous period of 10 years and can prove that you have not received an activity tested income support; for 5 years (or more).

Live continuously for 15 years.

Now there is still a little time before July 1, in order to deal with the changes can be prepared early, and the custom is that after July 1, water charges, electricity, gas charges, road tolls, fishing license fees and other fees will also follow the notice of price increases. In short, no see a month, another poor layer!
