The Australian Welfare Department refuses to issue medical insurance cards to cancer patients! Sydney 17-year-old leukemia girl forced to go online petition

The Australian Welfare Department, (Centrelink), recently rejected an application for a welfare card for a girl with leukemia because they thought she was "not seriously ill enough"!

According to the Daily Mail, 17-year-old Maddison Delaney, from Sydney, was diagnosed with leukemia the year before last. In order to get cheaper drugs, she has repeatedly applied for government's medical insurance card, but was rejected each time. She said her doctor and oncologist had written letters of recommendation, but government still rejected her application. Because she was diagnosed with leukemia "over 16 years of age but not over 18 years old," and she was not diagnosed as "terminally ill".

So, Delaney wrote an petition book and posted it online, saying she had completed "intensive therapy" after she was diagnosed in 2016, but she still needed "oral chemotherapy" and regular use of "antibiotics."

Delaney wrote: "since I was first diagnosed with the disease, my family and I have tried several times to apply for an Centrelink healthcare card because it means that my medication will be cheaper. We don't need money, we just want that card, so my medicine is cheap.

"when we called Centrelink, the attitude of the employees was incredible," she said. "We had reached this point and decided to pay the excess instead of spending hours on the phone to get another excuse."

It is reported that it has received more than 26000 support signatures since the drafting of the petition book seven days ago.

Delaney reportedly reimbursed medical insurance during hospitalization, but when transferred to the clinic, her family had to bear the cost of "maintaining" chemotherapy on its own.

"although not a lot of money each time, but also a lot of expenses, although my father still has income, but my mother had to quit my job to take care of me at home, this petition event is not just for me. It's for someone like me who's going through something like that! "
