Life in the Australian countryside is so boring, do you know their greatest pastime

People living in less developed areas and urban suburbs are Australia's most active online shoppers.

Ebay.com.au 's new data explores how Australians mainly use online markets to buy and sell second-hand goods, and reveals one of the things online shoppers hate most-postage.

Five of the 10 busiest online mail areas in the past year are in the countryside, and all the state's most active online shoppers live far away from CBD, according to data.

Tim MacKinnon, eBay's regional general manager for Australia and New Zealand, said there were no major shopping malls outside many cities, so the only way people could reach out to big retailers was online.

"91 per cent of the products we sell are new," he said.

EBay is the fifth most visited site in Australia, after Google.com.au,Google.com, Facebook and Tubing. Com.

Starting in mid-June, ebay.com.au will launch a new membership program, eBay Plus, which offers free delivery and other benefits, with shoppers paying only 49 yuan an annual fee. However, after a free 30-day trial, customers will receive a $29 discount in the first year.

"there are thousands of Australian retailers on eBay, including Myer,Target and Chemist Warehouse, who sell 15 million items, and if you sign up for eBay Plus, you can get free delivery and a return of any item," MacKinnon said.

In the year to March, 9.5 million Australians had online shopping experience, up 9 percent from the same period last year, according to new data from Roy Morgan. Norman Morris, a spokesman for the company, said there was plenty of room for growth.

"this is due to the speed of delivery, convenience and price," Morris said.

However, Australia's online shopping as a percentage of retail sales still lags behind other countries. "it's the distribution costs that drag Australia down," MacKinnon said.

Average delivery costs in Australia are almost double those in the UK and Germany and higher than in the US, according to internal eBay data. Another study found that more than 2/3 of Australians gave up online shopping because of high delivery costs.

Online shoppers buy an average of 27 items a year, with more than 1/3 spending at least 70 yuan a year on delivery, MacMinnon said. It is estimated that ordinary online buyers will pay a total of seven hundred and twenty nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine yuan in distribution fees each year.

"We ask customers what they want, and what they want most is free delivery of more goods," he said. They hate to pay postage. "

The most popular online purchases vary from state to state, but popular products across Australia include DVD and Blu-ray discs, auto accessories, toys, clothing, football and rugby cards.
