Taxi and Uber competition to enter white heat license fees reduce taxi drivers increase

A cheap taxi license has set a record number of taxi drivers in Victoria, the Herald Sun reported.

Last year, thousands of new taxis carried passengers on the road.

The number of taxi licences in Victoria rose from 5636 in August 2017 to 9757 at the end of April, according to new data from the Taxi Service Commission.

The taxi industry has always wanted to win the right to raise prices. Last week, they finally got permission to pass a $1 tax on consumers.

13CABS's David Samuel says the company's number of drivers has grown significantly over the past six months.

"it also means that there is a clear need for passengers to use our services, and that there is a lot of demand for drivers in the industry. The more taxis, the more consumers can rely on the industry, and we want it to grow. We all understand that there is a more competitive market now, but we never think that means that the taxi industry will end. "

Since government deregulated the taxi industry, the cost of a one-year Victorian taxi license has fallen from more than 22,999 yuan to 52.9 yuan.

The data show that taxis are preferred to other personalized modes of transportation, Samuel said. "We believe that we can provide a more competitive service, especially when demand is very high, we will do our best to meet the expectations and needs of consumers."

In a report to the basic Services Committee, 13CABS called for an increase in the starting price for unbooked taxis.

A government spokesman said: "government reforms have reduced spending and increased competition. This means that passengers are faced with more choices and better services and lower costs. "

Last year, Andrews government passed a bill that levies a $1 tax on all shared trips to compensate taxi license holders.
