South Australia has enough job seekers to break Adelaide's spectator record, with unemployment soaring to 7.3%, the worst in the country.
Unemployment fell 0.2 percentage points across the country, and the only rising state was South Australia. South Australia's unemployment rate is 1 percentage point higher than Queensland's second highest (6.3%).
Ian Markos, president of South Australia's Master Builders, said: "other states have not changed, or even lowered, but South Australia is facing a bleak life. If there's one thing that can unite South Australians, it's that South Australia has the highest unemployment rate in the country, and other states are getting better. "
The figures showed a sharp rise in female unemployment, rising from 6.8 percent to 8.3 percent in a month and now the highest level since February 2000.
Labor Director Kyam Maher says the state has been improving over the past 18 months, but the latest figures are disappointing.
Liberal Labor spokesman Corey Wingard says the state goverment's budget for job growth has failed.
Federal Labor Secretary Michaelia Cash said the fall in national unemployment was encouraging and highlighted the need for the goverment to focus more on economic growth and job creation.
