According to the Daily Mail, a local council in Perth adopted a strange way of planting trees in the middle of the driveway in order to slow down the speed of passing drivers.

In response to residents' concerns about dangerous driving, the Stirling City Council in North Perth, (City of Stirling Council), is reported to have moved to plant about 40 trees in the middle of the streets of (Innaloo), Italy's district.

Despite a lot of online opposition, Sterling Mayor Irwin (Mark Irwin) said the measure was welcome and was praised by many residents.

He said the project was designed to encourage drivers to adapt to slow driving, reduce the use of cars by non-local drivers, reduce the number and speed of vehicles on residential streets, and provide pedestrians with more suitable areas for walking or cycling.

He also said the project has been successful in slowing down speed, reducing the use of cars for non-local residents and improving comfort.

However, some residents have raised questions on social media about the reasonableness of placing trees in the middle of the driveway.

One resident bewildered asked, in a single-lane street, people across the tree saw a car coming, to hide behind the tree to let the car pass, then go around the tree?

Some netizens also said, first install the camera, now in the middle of the road planting safety trees to prevent accidents, "I am an Australian I am proud!"

The move to plant safety trees in the middle of the driveway is temporary and is not sure if it will become a permanent "feature" of the city.
