Starting this week, commuters can use credit cards to pay for all ferries in Sydney and the inner west side light rail network, equivalent to one-way fares.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Director of Transport of New York, Constance (Andrew Constance), announced today that the system has now been extended to all ferries in Sydney and the Nexi Light Rail after the successful pilot of the ferry service in Manley (Manly). Consumers use credit cards to pay, will be deducted one-way fee.

It is reported that the system was piloted by the Manley ferry, more than 5000 people used the service.

Constance stressed that the existing Australian card (Opal Card) e-ticket will continue to be used, and the new state in "all Australia" credit card payment system, will be more convenient for new state passengers, especially tourists.

In addition to Visa (Visa), MasterCard (Mastercard) and American Express (American Express) 's credit card itself, smartphones, tablets or smartwatches linked to these credit or debit cards are now available as payment tools.

Constance said about 8% of the people who use credit cards or debit cards in retail use contactless payment functionality in Chengdu as well as in the transportation system. The state hopes to make a global forerunner in this area, but it will not abandon the use of the Australian treasure card.

Constance said that the use of credit cards to pay for transportation, the charge is Australia card one-way fare for adults. However, users of the card will continue to enjoy the preferential policy of using the card eight times a week for public transport and half-price for the rest of the week, as well as a discount on bus transfers.

Constance also said the new policy is designed to facilitate tourists and passengers who forget to carry an Australian card. He hopes the system will be further expanded by the end of this year.

Asked if there was fraud in using credit cards to pay for transportation, Constance said the use of credit cards in the transport system was no different from that in retail.
