Australian whole Wheat Bread list: see if there's any love for you

Australians spend nearly A $90 million a year on bread, according to Australian News. Most Australians choose to buy bread in supermarkets, with Coles,Woolworths,Aldi and other independent supermarkets taking more than 67 percent of the market, according to research by Roy Morgan research firm (Roy Morgan Research).

But because of the variety of supermarket bread, dazzling, consumers do not know what to choose.

According to the survey, white bread is still the most popular bread, but over the past decade, whole wheat bread and grain bread have become more and more popular with consumers.

Choice, the consumer watchdog, recently sliced 21 brands of bread from the whole wheat market and compared them in terms of nutrition, taste and price-to-performance ratio to select the top five.

Lawson's grilled whole wheat, (Stone Mill Wholemeal), was crowned with 87 points of laurel, costing A $0.42 per two slices of bread, according to a survey. "the milled whole wheat has a sweet, earthy smell and an alluring taste," said a baking expert at Choice.

In second place was Abbott's Village Bakery's whole grain bread (Grainy Wholemeal), which scored 86 points at A $0.39 per two.

Then came Burgen's whole wheat melon seed bread (Wholemeal & Seeds),: 84 points, priced at A $0.58 / two; Woolworths's own country wheat bread, (Wholesome Country Wholemeal), with 83 points and 0.28 Australian dollars per piece); Helga's traditional whole wheat bread, 82 points, 0.39 Australian dollars / 2 slices.

It is understood that the judges first select 21 best-selling bread brands from supermarkets, taste the bread in random order before scoring. Among them, taste and nutrition scores account for 50%. Experts according to flavor, texture and appearance standards to score bread one by one, the total score of 10. The bread flavor score is the weighted average of these scores (flavor 50%, flavor 20%, texture 20% and appearance 10%). Bread nutrition score consists of health star (HSR) score and whole grain score, each accounting for 50% of the scoring ratio.

Nutritionist Beck (Kristen Beck) said when buying bread, consumers should look at "whole grains" and "whole wheat" ingredients in the composition table and buy less processed bread.

"whole grain bread is not only rich in protein, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals, but also has a lower glucose index, (GI), because grains take longer to digest."
