The operation is part of a road safety awareness and crackdown campaign by the new state police, (NSW Police), and the new state road safety center, (NSW Centre for Road Safety).

Police will launch a two-week crackdown, and Tamworth (Tamworth) in the north-east will be a key area of police focus, with an increased police presence.

It is understood that since July 2001, a total of 144 train and vehicle collisions have occurred at the level crossing of Xinzhou.

Rowford (Greg Rolph), of (Traffic and Highway Patrol Command), the traffic and road patrol director, said two accidents occurred at the level crossing last month. In one accident, the gate hit a truck as it dropped. Fortunately, the truck was removed from the rail before train arrived.
