The Sydney-Melbourne route operated by Qantas (Qantas) appears to be unremarkable, but it ranks second among the world's most profitable routes, according to Ausanews.com.

It is reported that the Sydney-Melbourne route operated by Qantas seems to be very ordinary, one-way flight time of only 1 hour 20 minutes, but this hot route has brought huge revenue to Qantas.

The most profitable route in the world is the New York-London route run by British Airways (British Airways), according to an analysis by aviation data company OAG. Between April 2017 and March 2018, the airline generated A $one billion four hundred and nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine in revenues for British Airways.

Qantas's Sydney-Melbourne route ranked second, with A $one billion one hundred and fifty nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine in revenue over the same period, equivalent to A $32,999 per hour on the route alone.

In third place was Emirates (Emirates) 's London-Dubai route, with A $one billion one hundred and nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine in revenue over the same period. It was followed by the London-Singapore airline operated by Singapore Airlines (Singapore Airlines), with A $ nine hundred and sixty thousand nine hundred and ninety nine in revenue over the same period.

Grant (John Grant), of OAG, said the world's 10 most profitable routes were high-cost operations, with airlines choosing wide-body models to provide services and a relatively large number of flights. Qantas alone, for example, has about 65 flights a day on the Sydney-Melbourne route. Usually, these routes also include a higher proportion of commercial transportation and ticket bookings, and higher yields, so the costs are high, but the returns are higher.

The 10 most profitable routes in the world:

British Airways: New York-London

Qantas: Melbourne-Sydney

Emirates: London-Dubai

Singapore Airlines: London-Singapore

American Airlines: Los Angeles-New York

Cathay Pacific: Hong Kong-London

Qatar Airlines: London-Doha
