Australians need to raise awareness of safety to prevent holiday burglary

Australians receive safety warnings as holiday season approaches, saying lax family safety practices could cost them thousands of Australian dollars, the Daily Telegraph reported.

According to the "pure personal data" (Pure Profile) survey of more than 1000 Australian adults, one in 10 Australians admitted publicly that they had not locked their doors and windows when they were at leave, according to News Corp's Australian division, (News Corp Australia).

Nearly half of the respondents said shutters and curtains were open when they were at leave, 66 percent did not hide valuables, and only 20 percent set a precautionary security alert.

Earlier, crime statisticians across Australia documented thousands of burglaries between December 2017 and January 2018. There were 5056 new states, 4985 in Victoria, 4516 in Kunzhou, and 1095 in South Australia.

Nearly one in three households do not have property insurance, and more than one in four do not think they need it, according to an independent survey by YouGov, a research firm.

Average costs for home insurance claims increased by 25 percent in the five years to the end of 2017, according to Allianz Insurance (Allianz). But consumers complain that the cost of property insurance is too high to be included in the stretched budget.

Walker (Donna Walker), an expert on housing protection at Allianz, said Australians may be optimists, but there is no way to avoid the risk of owning or renting a home.

"A lot of people may think that things in their home are not expensive enough to be insured, but if you add up the cost of replacing individual items such as cookware, sheets, blankets and small furniture," Walker said. The benefits of protecting family property are much more obvious. "

Hassan (Bessie Hassan), an insurance expert at finder.com.au, suggests that Australians should know about "insurance limits" and insured items.

"your laptop could be worth A $3000, but the insurance company's generic 'insurance limit' could be just A $1500," she said. In this case, you need extra insurance. "
