Australia has become the tenth happiest country in the world.

According to the Daily Mail, (Sustainable Development Solutions Network), the leading committee of the United Nations Action for Sustainable Development Network, yesterday released the 2018 Global Happiness Index report (2018 World Happiness Report), which quantifies and ranks the well-being of nationals of 2018 countries. Indicators include the level of cleanliness, social support and life expectancy in countries during the period 2015-2017.

Nordic countries have dominated the list since the first Global Happiness Index report was released in 2012. Finland won the crown this year, and its neighbour Norway ranks second. Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Sweden also topped the top 10, ranking 3,4,5,6,9.

Australia barely made it to the top 10, but fell slightly to 10th place from ninth place last year, behind Sweden. Other top 10 finalists include Canada (No. 7) and New Zealand (No. 8).

Americans' happiness index also fell, from 14th place last year to 18th place, and China fell from 79th to 86th. Britain rose to 19.

Unlike previous years, this year's report added an assessment of the happiness index of immigrants from 117 countries for the first time. The less diversified Nordic countries are still at the top of the list of happiness indices for people born overseas, with Finland still at the top of the list.

It is understood that the ethnic composition of Finland is relatively single, foreigners and born overseas resident population of 300000. Finland has a total population of 5.5 million. Finland's largest immigrant group is from other European countries, but there are also immigrants from Afghanistan, China, Iraq and Somalia.

Australia ranked sixth in the list, ahead of Canada in seventh place, but second to New Zealand in fifth place. Mexico accidentally entered the top ten.

Hurley (John Helliwell), an honorary professor of economics at the University of British Columbia and co-editor of the World Happiness report, points out that social well-being seems to be contagious. The report's most important finding is that the well-being of immigrants is significantly associated with the well-being of local-born people. People who emigrate to happier countries are happier, while those who move to less happy countries suffer. "

"like native-born residents, the source of happiness for immigrants is not just money, but depends on a range of characteristics of the social fabric of the immigrant country, including the acceptance of immigrants by the local population," the report said. When looking at the well-being of immigrants from all over the world, the researchers found that those who emigrated to higher-income countries did not increase, or even decrease, the well-being of those who emigrated to higher-income countries. A high income doesn't mean a high level of happiness. "

"the countries with the happiest immigrants are not the wealthiest, but the countries with a more balanced social system."
