Adelaide's snake epidemic this year! Mawson Lake residents have to be careful.

The area is no longer open to the public because of the presence of many snakes in Greenfields Wetlands in Mawson Lake. Specific opening hours need to be announced.

Last week, given the presence of snakes in the area, Salisbury Council decided to shut down the Dry Creek wetland indefinitely, given the safety of tourists.

This year, a total of about 12 snakes were seen in the Salisbury area, and they reported the phenomenon to Council. In October, when spring came, seven people reported to Council that they had seen snakes in the area.

In the past three months, a total of 10 people reported to the Council that they had seen snakes in the area.

An Council spokesman said they decided to close the wetland after employees discovered signs of snake activity on the wetland.

The spokesman did not say what kind of snake had been found in this area.

The most dangerous snakes to survive in South Australia are Eastern Brown Snake,Redbellied Black Snake and Tiger Snake..

Mel Kisbee, a nurse at the Vets4Pets benefit clinic in Mawson Lake, said that since mid-September, the clinic had injected people with 22 anti-toxic drugs, up from 14 last year.

"this year, there are a lot of snakes in the north of Ade," said Ms. Kirsbee. "the first area where snakes are present this year is Mawson Lake.," she said.

"it rained so often last year that one or two snakes were infested and never seen since, but the number of snakes this year is especially high."

"A client said that just recently, her dog had saved her life, and she was about to take a bath, but her dog barked at a snake in the bathtub, and she didn't even notice that there was a snake in the tub."

She also says the number of pet attacks by snakes has risen this year, and many have died before they were injected with antidotes.

She reminded all pet owners that if their pet was bitten by a snake, they should take the pet to the veterinarian immediately and inject an antidote.

On Facebook, there is a home page called Adelaide Snake Sightings. In the past six weeks, there have been three serpent incidents, both in Mawson Lake..

Sammy Ford, a resident of, Mawson Lake, is worried because of the snake infestation.

"Snake infested earlier this year than in previous years," Ms Ford said on her Facebook home page.

"just a few weeks ago, when I saw a snake in Elder Drive, I immediately instructed my three-year-old daughter what to do when she saw the snake. It was horrible."

Here are some notes for seeing the snake:

  • Don't mess with it, if you don't take the initiative to provoke it, it won't come after you;
  • If a snake is seen in the house, let all people and pets leave the house, close the door, clog the door with a towel, and contact the professional snake catcher to catch the snake;
  • If you see a snake outside, and then it goes into a shed or under a motor vehicle, please contact the snake catcher.
  • Snakes are also dangerous, and underage Brown Snake has been poisoned since it hatched from the eggs;
  • If you are in a park or reserve, walk on an artificial road;
  • Clean the yard, do not put garbage in the yard or let weeds grow too long;
  • After cooking, clean up in time, clear rat damage, because snakes to catch rats to survive.
