According to official data, men in Victoria and women in the Australian capital territory are the longest-lived groups in Australia, according to Australian News Network.
According to data released on Wednesday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), groups of men in Victoria have the longest life expectancy, with an average of 81.3 years, according to figures released by Australia's Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday. Women took the lead from the Australian capital territory, averaging 85.2 years.
Last year, Australian men had a record life expectancy of 80.5 years, but still four years shorter than women.
In fact, in Australia, the average life expectancy of women is longer than that of men.
Gruby (Anthony Grubb), head of demographics at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, said life expectancy had increased by 12.9 years for men and 10.4 years for women over the past half century.
Australians live longer than residents of countries such as New Zealand, Britain and the United States.
It is understood that in the United Nations life expectancy ranking, Australia ranked sixth. Japan topped the list, followed by Switzerland and Spain.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics attributed the increase in life expectancy to declining mortality, improved health services, safer working conditions, and advances in medical technology.
