A man who had not paid a total of A $ three hundred and fifty thousand in child support for several years was intercepted at the airport when he was about to board and left Australia and was asked to pay all of his arrears on the spot. Its unpaid alimony is Australia's highest amount ever owed for child support.

According to the Daily Telegraph, any unpaid tax and non-payment of debts, such as child support, will be subject to a "departure ban order (Departure Prohibition Orders,DPO", which gives welfare institutions greater disposal rights. For example, the imposition of a travel ban on debtors, etc.

Over the past seven months, the federal goverment has recovered A $6 million from 700 Australians who have not paid their debts and tried to leave Australia, double the amount in 2010-11. The joint effort by (Child Support Agency), a child-rearing agency, and the Immigration Service is expected to recover more than A $10 million in arrears from 1800 Australians facing a flight ban in the fiscal year 2016-17.

Despite goverment's efforts, some divorced parents have owed as much as A $1.5 billion in overdue maintenance payments to their children. Human Services Secretary Keenan (Michael Keenan) said the goverment is committed to ensuring that children whose families are broken receive all the support they deserve. He said authorities have so far recovered some of their arrears, another example of goverment sharing information with other agencies to improve the daily lives of Australians. The former Labour goverment came under shelling from Keenan for recovering only A $3.3 million in 2010-11.

Moreover, in another case last year, a wealthy mining mogul was stopped before boarding and A $22,000 in child support payments were cleared before boarding. Two other cases of unpaid maintenance have also been closed. In one case, it was revealed to the authorities that a parent who had not paid nearly A $40,000 was about to leave Australia, and a Border Guard officer then intercepted the latter at the airport and paid off his $30,000 debt on the spot. And agreed to pay the balance after returning to Australia. Another man was intercepted at Perth Airport and eventually paid back A $ one hundred thousand in maintenance payments to his two children.
