Can Uber drivers get past GST?

Uber (Uber) is a similar domestic Didi Taxi software. So far, Uber Australia has about 15000 drivers, a new industry with mobile real-time humanized pick-up and car rental services that not only facilitate people in need, but also create part-time opportunities!

Recent news about whether ATO levies GST on Uber drivers has made Uber a hot spot.

Under normal circumstances, Australian companies with turnover of less than $75,000 are not required to register GST, but for taxi operators and luxury passenger service personnel, according to'A NEW TAX SYSTEM (GOODS AND SERVICES TAX) ACT1999 (Cth) 'SECT 144, ATO has special rules.

At present, ATO has not issued a new tax law for Uber drivers for the time being. Instead, UberX drivers are listed as taxi services. ACT1999 (Cth), has been used but other services provided by Uber, such as express delivery and food delivery, have not been described in detail.

This means that UberX drivers need to be taxed GST, regardless of whether your income has reached the threshold for applying for GST, or that you are just making some extra money from Uber as your sideline.

ATO now proposes to provide operators who carry passengers

Enterprise (driver of UberX):

  • No matter how profitable; keep records and need to register ABN and GST;
  • Full payment of passenger fare by one trip GST;
  • At the same time, the submission of the relevant report on operational activities (BAS) includes tax returns on income from carrying passengers;
  • Of course, Uber drivers also have the right to apply for tax and GST credits according to the ratio of passenger transport services to total expenditure (e.g. petrol, car repair, Rego, etc.)
  • Uber driver registration on the latest GST regulations for you to introduce here, I hope to give you help.
