Airbnb flourishes in Australian Township areas

Australians may live in fast-growing capital cities, but reality seems to show a growing desire for short-term leisure and vacations outside metropolitan areas.

Article highlights:

  • Airbnb says 56 percent of visitors from all over Australia visited (guest arrivals) in 2017, choosing houses published outside major cities.
  • Run Henrier (Ron Hellyer) has not been free since he boarded Airbnb's family house in (Broken Hill), a broken hill.
  • Tasmanian Hotel Services Association (Tasmanian Hospitality Association) says the increase in housing resources published by Airbnb has a positive and negative [double] impact.

The latest figures, released by global accommodation giant Airbnb (Airbnb), show that half of the platform's housing listings in Australia are now outside major cities.

Sam MacDonald (Sam McDonagh), the company's Australian and New Zealand regional manager, said Airbnb has become the "economic lifeline" of many in rural areas.

"Airbnb supports employment opportunities in more than 4000 local township communities," he said.

"without the cost or any delay in building a new hotel, Airbnb has made rural Australia more accessible and affordable than ever."

Airbnb hosted 2.1 million people across Australia in fiscal year 2015, according to a report by Deloitte (Deloitte), a consultancy.

Airbnb said 56 percent of visitors visited areas outside Australia's major cities in 2017.

Run Henrier (Ron Hellyer), who lives in (Broken Hill), a remote area of western New South Wales, has put his house on top of Airbnb, saying demand is strong.

"We have not been vacant since we were logged out. There are tourists, as well as visitors. Some people come by plane, some by train, others by car, "he said."

"most Australians absolutely don't like to come here and spend some time in front of the motel walls, and they absolutely want to know why you're staying here."

He said the listing of their house on Airbnb also gave him and his wife a stable source of income. Now all five of their children have moved out of their home.

"it's a good income, and [the money] can be used to repair the house," he said.

The hotel industry says the regulations need to catch up

The good side of Airbnb's expansion to rural areas in Australia is to increase competition in tourism revenue.

In New South Wales, the company's growth areas include Byron Bay (Byron Bay), Nola (Nowra), Newcastle (Newcastle) and Wolonggang (Wollongong), and Victoria, The number of publications along Dayang Road (Great Ocean Road) is on the rise.

In Queensland, new arrivals are concentrated on the Gold Coast and remote areas of northern Queensland, while in South Australia, growth is in Rob (Robe) and King Scott (Kingscote). The Margaret River (Margaret River) and Albany (Albany) in Western Australia are also growing.

Steve Ould (Steve Old) of (Tasmanian Hospitality Association), the Tasmanian hotel services association, said the increase in Airbnb's housing supply had both positive and negative effects.

"Airbnb has had a negative impact on some of our hoteliers, as well as on our restaurants and coffee shops," Mr. Ould said.

"however, what is happening now in some villages and towns in Tasmania is that [hotel] operators struggle to face the laws and regulations that lie before them."

"however, some other operators did not have to pay the same regulatory costs when they posted their homes on Airbnb." "this is a very unfair competition. We must make sure that we solve this problem. "
