Introduction

Located in the eastern outskirts of Charters Towers, a small inland town in northeast Queensland, Charters Towers Venus Gold Battery is the largest remaining gold refinery in Australia and the oldest to date in Queensland. It has certain historical and cultural significance.

Built in 1872, Charters Towers Venus Gold Battery became a state smelter in 1919 that was responsible for providing ore crushing facilities to small miners after the closure of other similar plants. After a century of operation, the plant ceased operations in 1973. Now, as a tourist attraction, Charters Towers Venus Gold Battery is open to the public and can receive tour groups led by tour guides every day. The film show here is one of the highlights of the visit, which not only introduces the process of extracting gold from the original stone. It also tells the story of the factory workers and some ghost legends.
