A spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior said the ABF had now sent police units to the scene and thanked the Kunzhou police department for its support.

"We can confirm that 11 people have been found and that our first priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of the personnel on board the fishing boat."

The illegal immigrants are believed to have arrived in Australia from Indonesia, a fishing boat carrying 27 people. The ship, which carries asylum seekers, appears to have arrived in Australia for the first time in four years, according to Courier-Mail.

It is reported that one of the men claimed to be a taxi driver.

Two men tried to escape to a local boat lane, but were detained and the rest of the crew were still at large. Some of the men on board are believed to be hiding in mangroves.
