Uber, a ride-hailing service company, is about to gain full recognition in South Australia. A series of new laws and regulations will be introduced later to punish unauthorized services.

Uber-X began operating in South Australia last year, but does not have a license, meaning drivers who provide Uber-X services have actually broken the law.

Later this year, certification of Uber-X services (announced by South Australia`s goverment) and a range of other new laws and regulations will be introduced.

Including: illegal points deduction, driver`s license revoked or unlicensed driving, no corresponding documents to provide passenger services, and so on.

Since June 2016, Department of Transportation inspectors have seized 321 violations in accordance with current law.

In addition, goverment has announced plans to pay an extra Australian dollar per ride to compensate taxi operators and drivers who allow other companies to enter the market.

It is expected to receive 80 million Australian dollars in compensation over the next 20 years.

"the state goverment has worked very hard to negotiate a balance between more options, better service quality, better working conditions, and the stability of existing operators and investors."

The plan also mentions halving passenger service EFTPOS and card-swiping fees by half, from 10 percent to 5 percent.
