For every 10 jobs created in Australia over the next five years, one is from the service sector, creating thousands of opportunities for those with a good talent for customer service.

Australian cafes, restaurants and catering services posted turnover of A $26.5 billion in the previous fiscal year, up 4.1 percent from a year earlier, according to the Advertising newspaper, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). South Australia posted the highest gain of 19.9 percent, followed by New York (8.7 percent) and Victoria (5.2 percent).

Australia`s federal government predicts that 40100 new service jobs, including waiters, bartenders and baristes, will be created over the next five years. In addition, there will be 16800 additional chef posts, 16100 kitchen helpers, 9700 cafe and restaurant managers, 6200 ordinary chefs and 4800 fast-food chefs.

Together, these occupations will add up to 93700 new jobs. It also means that between 2018 and 2023, one out of every 10 jobs created in Australia came from the services sector.

Coward (James Coward), director of policy and public relations at (Restaurant and Catering Australia), the Australian catering association, said the gap in services jobs in Australia was so high that there was no place "to escape the shortage of skilled talent."

According to the 2018 Industry benchmark report (2018 Industry Benchmarking Report), released by the Australian Catering Association, 48.2% of companies found it "very difficult" to recruit chefs, and 41.1% found it difficult to recruit coffee and restaurant managers.

In the year to June 2018, domestic spending on restaurants and takeout rose 11 percent to A $11.1 billion during the year to June 2018, according to the National tourist Survey (National Visitor Survey) of the Australian Tourism Bureau (Tourism Research Australia).

Coward recommends that people interested in service jobs apply actively for apprenticeship and pursue long-term career development.
