Gannili, former governor of new state, denounced Tambo's comments on china, saying it was spreading phobia

Last Thursday, Mr. Tan submitted a new draft law to Parliament aimed at cracking down on foreign political intervention and espionage, the Australian newspaper reported. He also expressed concern at the meeting about China`s influence on Australia`s political affairs. In response, former new state governor Ganeli (Kristina Keneally) accused Prime Minister Tan Po of "spreading Chinese phobia", saying the party was trying to win support from voters in Sydney`s (Bennelong) region by cracking down on foreign interference in the new law.

It is reported that Ganneli will be the Labour Party candidate to participate in this nylon by-election. She compared Tan Bao`s remarks with those of Han Xin, the controversial leader of the one-country party, and said that Tan Bao`s hard-line stance on China`s goverment was against Liberal Party candidate Alexander (John Alexander).

Mr. Tan`s comments made Chinese Australians dissatisfied and frustrated when they last heard Han Xin and the one-nation party`s comments 20 years ago, she said, adding that Mr. Tan`s comments made people from Chinese or Asian backgrounds as suspicious people and that Chinese Australians were disgruntled and dismayed by the comments they last heard from Han Xin and the one-nation party.

Ganneli believes that if the party continues to spread the "China fear" rhetoric, it will be against the Liberal Party candidates in the Nylon by-election, undermining their own chances of victory.

Alexander was reported to have resigned as a member of parliament over dual nationality and will take part in a by-election in the Nylon region on Saturday. At the moment, he leads with a 9.7% margin gap.
