According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a new survey by the Australian Department of Education and training (Department of Education and Training) found that in 2017, the number of Australian students studying abroad was close to 50, 000, an increase of 64 percent over a four-year period. Most students study overseas as exchange students or participate in short-term programs.

It is understood that Australian students go overseas to study, the favorite destination is China, attracting 11.2 percent of overseas students, which is reflected in the results of closer cooperation between Australian and Chinese universities.

American universities are also popular with Australian students, attracting 11.1% of overseas students. Britain, once the favourite of Australian students, now ranks third, attracting 8.3% of Australia`s overseas students.

It is reported that most of these students study abroad for no more than a semester.

The department`s data did not include 12713 students who attended higher education overseas for more than two years.

In addition, Australia ranks 30th among countries where students go to study in the United States, but it has been in the top three of the countries that send student athletes to the National University Sports Association (National Collegiate Athletic Association) of the United States.
