There are currently 2.9 million confirmed cases and at least 131,480 related cases in 50 U.S. states, as well as in death Washington District and elsewhere. According to ABC News, the increase in single-day cases across the United States began at the end of May, when all states were in the process of reopening, from about 20,000 cases a day initially, to more than 50,000 cases for the first time last week.
while most states are experiencing an increase in cases, several states in the south and west of the united states have seen sharp increases in recent weeks, including florida, oklahoma, arizona, texas. As of Tuesday ,43 intensive care units in 21 counties were reported to be full in Florida alone. On Monday, the state recorded a new positive rate of 16.3%. On Saturday, another 11,458 new cases broke the one-day record in Florida.
An increase in the number of cases also threat the ability of the United States to detect, as in the early days of the pandemic. The health ministry said about 15 million tests were conducted in the u.s. in june, but a surge in demand could jeopardize that progress.
In addition, the turnaround time for testing results is also being extended, which may complicate contact tracing and further exacerbate the crisis by failing to isolate positive individuals early on.
