Perth`s Elizabeth Wharf was chosen as Australia`s national monument site to commemorate the missing passengers and crew of MH370.

Governor McGowan said the monument, which will be funded jointly by the state and federal governments, is expected to be completed in the second half of 2018.

Perth was chosen because it bordered the Indian Ocean. 227 passengers and 12 crew members were thought to have died in the Indian Ocean.

The disappearance of MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014 remains the biggest mystery in aviation history. People used epoch-making technology and models to search for it 2500 kilometers from Perth and stopped searching in January last year.

The memorial will feature 239 people from 14 countries on flight MH370, the prime minister and cabinet said in a request for proposals.

"given the sensitivity of Chinese culture, we will use `lost people` (those lost) instead of `dead` (those that died)." "given that the mystery is still unsolved, the list is not appropriate," the tender said.

The monument will be located on one of four potential sites on the artificial island of Elizabeth Wharf, which already has children`s playgrounds and coffee shops.

According to the invitation to bid, the monument cost one hundred and twenty five thousand nine hundred and ninety nine yuan, including GST, will be completed in September.
