Suspected of describing Indians as "curry" in a text message, Paul Mitchell, a prominent WLP figure, resigned.

Mitchell resigned on Saturday by e-mail to state director Nick Demiris, saying he did not want to be a distraction in the Liberal Party's preparations for next year's federal election.

He said he had taken too much attention from candidates and lawmakers.

Mitchell wrote: "the Liberal Party's defeat in the Victorian election has had serious consequences for the leaders, including yourself, but it is clear that for many of us, more bleeding sacrifice is needed." For this reason, I resign from all my posts now. "

Mitchell served as Vice-President of the Liberal Party of Victoria, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Secretary of the Flinders Election Committee and member of the Nepean Election Committee.

The Liberal Party suffered a lot in the wake of the defeat in the state election. State director Nick Demiris resigned this week.

The chronicle this week exposed a series of text messages and Facebook posts, including Mitchell and Marcus Bastiaan calling an organization "homosexual love Catholics" (fag Catholics), which sparked outrage both inside and outside the party.

Both denied sending such posts.

The Liberal Party has been criticised for its lack of respect for women, the LGBTQI community and immigrants, adding to the text messages that have been exposed.

Mitchell told Demiris that he would remain a party member.

"I will not resign," he wrote. "I know the glorious days of my party will come." I thank the Liberal Party for giving the young people an opportunity. "
