Mr Chan, a former Chief Secretary for Administration and one of Hong Kong`s leading proponents of democracy, has not made public appearances since her daughter died last month. Friday (June 26), she abruptly announced that she would quit citizen and political work and lead a calmer life because of her age. While the Chinese Communist Party pushed the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law ," Chen Fang Ansheng withdrew from politics, causing concern.

Chen Fang Ansheng, known as the "Hong Kong Iron Lady ", said in a brief statement that he had been 80 years old in February and had long promised his children that he would retire from citizen and political work and lead a calmer life when he turned 80.

Chen Fang AnSheng frankly because of the recent sudden death of her daughter, suffered a painful blow. "It takes time and space to mourn and recover, and more to cherish the time spent with family especially granddaughter and son-in-law ," she said. "

At the end of the statement, Mr Chan said that he was always home to Hong Kong hoped that young people would remain hopeful about their future and continue to protect the city`s core values in a law-abiding and peace manner.

Mr Chan, who has been active in politics all his life, and Mr Lee Chuk-ming, chairman of the founding party of the Democratic Party lawer 、 the founder of the Hong Kong Apple Daily, Mr Lai Chi-ying, and Bishop John Chan of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, are regarded as the four core figures of the pan-people.

However, Chen Fang Ansheng has been the target of the Chinese Communist Party for many years. He and Li Zhiying, Li Zhuming and the Chairman of the Subcommittee and former Legislative Council Member He Junren were slandered by some pro-communists as a "gang of four people in Hong Kong."

After graduating from university in 1962, he joined the former Hong Kong-UK government as Administrative Officer and was gradually promoted. He became the first Chinese civil servant in the Hong Kong-UK government from 1993 to 1997.

After the handover of Hong Kong`s sovereignty to the Communist Party of China in 1997, Chen Fang Ansheng served as Chief Secretary for Administration, but in 2001 he applied for retirement on private grounds, ending his 39-year public career. The outside world analyzed her disagreement with the chief executive of the then relatives, Dong Jianhua, and was not trusted by Beijing.

Mr. Chen, who remained active in politics after his retirement, publicly supported efforts to win democracy and freedom, participation in the pan-people parade, soon became one of the core figures.

Mr Chan returned in 2007 to take part in councillor by-election at the Hong Kong Island legislation Council and beat the former security bureau chief, Ye Shu-yi. Later, she announced that she would no longer run for re-election, leaving office in 2008.

Chen Fang Ansheng established "Hong Kong 2020" with former Legislative Councillor Li Pengfei, Hong Kong University legal scholar Chen Wenmin, and barrister Li Zhixi in April 2013, insisting on the election of the Chief Executive by "general universal suffrage" in order to improve Hong Kong`s governance and Retain core values.

During his visit to the United States in April 2014, Mr. Chen and Mr. Li lawer received an audience of senior officials, including the Vice-President, to tell the United States about Hong Kong, including the weakening of "one country, two systems" and the impact on core values.

Chen Fang Ansheng is relatively low-key in the "2019 Hong Kong protests "struggle, as amended by the anti-escort regulations that broke out last June.

However, in March and April 2019, the aged Chen Fang Ansheng was invited to visit the United States with two pan-national councillor to exchange information with United States politicians on the implementation of the one-country, two-system system in Hong Kong. He was received by Vice Vice President of the United States, and met with politicians such as Speaker Pelosi of the House of Representatives and officials of the head of the State Council`s "Hong Kong Policy Law" to criticize Hong Kong`s "one-country, two-systems" as deteriorating and transforming in recent years.
