According to Radio 9, Sydney will hold a gay grand parade, police tonight, the number of people in the event is expected to break the record, in order to prevent security problems, police will step up vigilance.

It is reported that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Gay Carnival (Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras) and the first gay carnival since the legalization of same-sex marriage in Australia. There are 2300 people attending tonight`s gay carnival parade, along with 200 floats, which are expected to attract five hundred thousand people.

The leader of the parade team will be 78ers, a pioneer group that took to the streets 40 years ago to fight for gay rights. In addition, popular Queen Cher (Cher) will also be involved in the event.

(Terese Casu), chief executive of the Carnival, said it was the first gay carnival since the legalization of same-sex marriage in Australia and was therefore special. Cher`s arrival was exciting and her voice was influential in global politics. Throughout her career, she has also been at the forefront of (LGBTQI) activities and philanthropy for sexual minorities.

Police said the number of people involved in tonight`s parade event is expected to break the previous record. In order to prevent security problems, the police sent more than 1000 police to patrol the parade area to keep a high level of vigilance against all kinds of suspicious acts.

Assistant Sheriff Crandel (Tony Crandell) said there was still a possible terrorist threat in Australia and that additional measures would be taken to ensure security.
