According to the Sydney Herald Morning Post, the minimum admission scores for most of the state`s top elite schools have risen significantly.

It is reported that in the New State Department of Education (NSW Department of Education) elite secondary school entrance examination, students can receive up to 300 points, of which 100 points from the student`s school evaluation score, the other 200 points are the test score.

The entrance exam should be reformed this year, with students scoring up to 16 points higher than in previous classes. Among them, James Rousse Agricultural Middle School (James Ruse Agricultural High School) minimum admission score reached 250 for the first time, the highest in 23 years. It is 9 points higher than last year and nearly 20 points higher than in 2015.

The minimum admission score for (Alexandria Park Community School) at Alexandria Park Community School was 186, up 16 points from last year.

The minimum admission scores of (Armidale), Auburn Girls Middle School (Auburn Girls), Karabah Middle School (Karabar) and Curingar Middle School (Kooringal) remained unchanged at 160.

Jung (Jae Jung), a senior lecturer and (UNSW) gifted education expert at the University of New South Wales, said the improvement in minimum admission scores in multiple schools was mainly affected by examination reform and increased competition.

In March, about 14500 sixth graders took the exam and competed for 4256 academic degree. The number of applicants has been relatively stable since 2017, with less than 1% of the students receiving academic degree.

New State Education Director Michelle (Sarah Mitchell) said she was aware of the predictable performance problems of the current exam and had taken reforms to ensure that the test results were more accurate.

It is reported that the results of previous reviews show that vulnerable students face "unexpected barriers to admission" and find that "there are defects in the design of the examination," including gender differences and school assessment practices. Therefore, at the end of last year, The New State Department of Education announced a comprehensive reform of the admission test, including "linking the difficulty of testing to the ability of gifted students to take part in the exam" and reducing the "predictability and trainee nature" of the exam.

This year`s entrance exam has changed slightly, and these changes are aimed at making it "fair to everyone." The existing form of examination is retained, but it will change next year.
