More than 90% of applicants receive student visas. Chinese students account for 1/4, with a total of 41000. Another 20,000 are Indian students. The approval rate for Chinese student visas fell from 98.3% to 93.8% in 2017.
Overall, the number of student visas issued increased by 7%.

Of those holding 485 temporary graduate visas, about 6000 turned to skilled immigration visas, down 13.7 percent from the same period in 2016.
