On the day of the incident, security officers on board were told that a Chinese-American male passenger had exposed his nakedness to a girl and masturbation in front of the latter. Security officers showed the girl the passport of the Chinese passenger on board, black and white photo. After the girl was identified as Mr. Sun, the crew disclosed Mr. Sun`s details to the girl`s father.

The angry father then rushed into Mr. Sun`s cabin and beat him in front of his wife and children. Mr. Sun immediately called in the security guards, but when they arrived, they took Mr. Sun to a room on the ground floor of the cabin and questioned him for an hour and a half.

Mr. Sun said the crew said they had the evidence to stop trying to argue. Mr. Sun was stunned and asked to see a video of his "himself" crime filmed by surveillance. Only then did Mr. Sun find that the man caught in the video had no tattoos, but he had them. After pointing out this obvious difference, the security guard argued that because Mr. Sun was an Asian face and the exposed maniac was also Asian, it was an easy mistake.

After that, Mr. Sun was allowed to return to his room. But the cruise company did not explicitly apologize for being beaten and injured, nor did it provide him with any medical care. After being humiliated and beaten for no reason, Mr. Sun, his wife and daughter, as well as his parents, refused to get off the boat after the incident.

The day after the incident, the customer service department of the Australian Carnival contacted Mr. Sun and offered a free meal for Mr. Sun and his family. "they said they were sorry for our [negative] experience, but all the actions taken by the security personnel were in accordance with the rules," Mr. Sun said in an interview. "they did not apologize for that."
