For immigrants, many bring their parents and families to Australia, and welfare protection is a big advantage. However, so far this year, Australia`s goverment PR and immigrants to open the knife, a variety of welfare cuts. This time, goverment`s knife is aimed at the pension-and after that, the waiting time for new immigrants to receive a pension will be extended from 10 years to 15 years!

Recently, the goverment submitted a bill on pension reform to the Federal Parliament. The bill stipulates that, starting next July, applicants for a pension or disability pension (disability pension) will have to live in Australia for a continuous period of 10 years, five of which are within length of service before they can apply for a pension; Or live for a continuous period of 15 years.

Prior to that, immigrants who had lived in Australia for a cumulative period of 10 years, five of which were consecutive residents, could apply for a pension.

This also means that, in the future, some retired parents emigrated to Australia and have to wait 15 years to receive a pension.

Goverment`s intention is clear: to get a pension, you have to contribute to Australia`s economy and society by working and paying taxes.

Social Services Minister Christian Porter said it is fair and reasonable for Australians to make a contribution and then enjoy benefits.

It is reported that the policy does not apply to refugees, and has no impact on those who have already started to receive pensions. However, it is expected that 2400 people a year will be affected by the policy, which is likely to include Chinese immigrants who bring their families to Australia through family visas. The move will also save goverment about A $ one hundred and eighteen million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine in spending.

In addition, under the pension reform, the goverment also plans to stop paying pensions to people who have been away from Australia for more than six weeks.

In addition to pension benefits, the Act also covers a number of other welfare system reforms, including:

For recipients of Family Tax Benefit A, if the household income exceeds $94, 316, for every Australian dollar over $1, the allowance is reduced by 30 points (originally 20 points);

For those applying for Newstart, school allowance, sickness allowance or youth allowance for (youth allowance), if the applicant has current assets, the maximum waiting time will be increased from the original 13 weeks to 26 weeks;

Applicants for student relocation scholarships must study in Australia and their parents` home or permanent address is also a student in Australia.

In short, there are more and more restrictions on getting benefits from goverment in the future.
