The United States withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council. Australia is going to stay or not. There are differences within the Liberal Party.

Foreign Minister Bi Xiao (Julie Bishop) said the move by the United States was disappointing. She revealed that the Australian government had lobbied senior Trump (Donald Trump) administration officials to keep the United States a member, but failed. "We have a strong preference for the United States to continue to be a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, and I told senior members of the Trump administration about this," she said.

The Human Rights Council recently launched an investigation into the shooting of at least 132 Palestinians by Israeli forces during an earlier demonstration in (Gaza), Gaza, as a trigger for the withdrawal of the United States. Bi Xiao said Australia is also concerned about anti-Israeli tendencies in the council.

Australia, currently a member of the Human Rights Council, is due to expire at the end of 2020. On June 20, (Australian Jewish Association), the Australian Jewish association, called on the United States to withdraw with the United States. Adler (David Adler), president of the association, said: "it should be easy to do the right thing. We call upon Australia, together with our main ally, the United States, to declare its withdrawal from the United Nations Human Rights Council on a principled basis. "

Liberal MP Kelly (Craig Kelly) said Australia should withdraw from the council. He said: "if the United States is not present, I doubt the value of our stay." Australia, he said, "does not need to be in the Human Rights Council if it is to take a firm stand on human rights issues around the world."

Liberal Senator Patterson (James Paterson) is a supporter of Israel, but says Australia must remain on the board to remain a "night watchman" against "anti-Israeli bias."

Labour Foreign Affairs spokesman Huang Yingxian (Penny Wong) also said he was disappointed with the US decision. She said the move would give the dictatorship more power.
