The Australian government is being called on to ban the chatter (TikTok) of social media applications from China on national security grounds. There are more than 1.6 million Australian users of the APP owned by the Chinese company byte beat (Bytedance). Users, most of whom are 16-24 years old, can use the APP to record their videos and upload them publicly.

Morrison government last week allocated $270 billion to boost defense efforts, of which $1.35 billion was dedicated to strengthening national cybersecurity. Australia has been subject to continued hacking by foreign authorities, and it is widely believed that China is the culprit.
