The new state government has chosen CPB Contractors and UGL to contract (Sydney Metro City & Southwest, Australia`s largest public transport project, for the Sydney City-to-Southwest project.

1.37 billion of Chatswood-Bankstown railway projects contracted

Two companies owned by the CIMIC Group will work together on the A $one billion three hundred and sixty nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine contract, which includes the main railway system in the 15-kilometer Sydney Metro two-hole tunnel from Chatswood to Sydenham.

The contractor will also expand Rouse Hill`s existing Sydney Metro train facility to accommodate 37 new trains.

The contract will also include Sydney Metro`s new train facility in Marrickville, tunnel ventilation at seven underground stations, mechanical and electrical systems, and 11 new substations from Chatswood to Bankstown to power the subway.

This is the seventh contract for the Sydney City Railway City-Southwest project, with a budget of A $11.5 billion to A $12.5 billion.

Michael Wright, CEO of the CIMIC Group, said: "the project combines the railway construction experience of our construction company CPB Contractors and our asset solution provider, UGL, to cover the design, construction and commissioning of the project. Deliver end-to-end (end-to-end) construction results to customers. "

CPB Contractors is currently a contractor for Sydney City Rail City to Southwest, Sydney Rail Northwest, WestConnex M4E, and New M5.

UGL`s operations include tunnel renovations for Sydney Rail Northwest and Epping to Chatswood projects. The project will begin this year between Chatswood and Bankstown.

A total of 66 km of the Sydney Metro City-Southwest project is scheduled to be delivered in 2024.
