In April this year, Australian Prime Minister Tam Po and the Minister of Immigration both confirmed that goverment members of Australia who wish to become naturalized in the future must pass a number of rigorous tests!

These will include:

  • Applicants must take the English test (equivalent to the IELTS score of 6). Those who fail to meet the criteria cannot apply for naturalization!
  • After obtaining a permanent PR visa for Australia, it takes at least four years to leave Australia for at least four years and a total period of time to leave Australia for a period of not more than one year before applying for naturalization. (previously, holders of permanent residence visas were required to wait only one year before applying for naturalization)
  • Applicants must commit themselves to support and adhere to Australian values. (naturalization exams will add questions on violence against women and children, female circumcision and forced marriage to examine the applicant`s perception of these phenomena.)
  • The naturalization examination can only have three chances in the future. If you fail the exam, you will not be able to become naturalized! You have to take another exam in two years.
  • In addition, the federal goverment plans to introduce a series of heavyweight policies that could be rejected if the following conditions are not met!

In current naturalization materials, it is only necessary to prove good conduct of non-crime proof and other basic materials.

However, future naturalization requirements will include:

  • Employment certificate (naturalized applicant must prove that he or she has a job)
  • Tax certificate (naturalization applicant must prove that he has a bonded record with ATO)
  • Children must be sent to Australian schools (applicants must send their children to Australian schools if they have children)
  • Participation in community activities (applicants must prove that they have participated in community activities and become members of local communities)
  • The goverment hopes to see if applicants are integrated into Australia`s lifestyle and accept Australian social values, thereby eliminating extremist religious elements, troublemakers and lazy people who want to take advantage of Australia`s generous benefits.

In his speech, the Australian Prime Minister said:

If you want to be an Australian citizen, then English is the first skill you need, which is the most basic requirement as an Australian.

Then, goverment also said, even among Australian citizens, there is a large number of people, forever! No! Meet goverment naturalization test requirements and English requirements!

Yesterday, the television station invited a group of people, some of them were born in Australia, or emigrated.

But they all share the same identity: Australian citizens.

And they`re going to experience a citizenship test for Australian citizens,

Let`s see if the Australians themselves can pass the goverment exam for immigrants.

Is this paper too difficult, or is it common sense, as the prime minister said?

"Australia`s sunshine, beaches, cultural customs. Everything is perfect. "

"I love Australia`s free environment, and it offers endless opportunities."

"everyone is very friendly and everyone speaks to each other in a friendly manner."

"Australia is my home. It`s the best country."

It seems that Australian citizens really love this beautiful country when they take part in the test.

But next, they are about to start taking a new naturalization exam, and the questions they will face are selected from the newly proposed citizenship test for Australian citizens, which includes new elements that Australia`s goverment hopes to implement. For example: test naturalized English language ability listening, speaking, reading, writing questions.

Simulation tests for the naturalization exam include 10 multiple-choice questions and 3 reading comprehension questions, the examiner explains.

The exam is English closed, and all mobile phones and electronic devices need to be turned off.

The exam time is 45 minutes. Get 75 points to pass.

Hear 75 minutes to pass, a lot of people began to show stress, … forget it, hard on the scalp!

While watching them take the exam, readers, would you like to try it, too?

Question: what is the logo of Australian federal property?

    3 option 1:

    A) National Anthem

    B) Australian National Flowe

The answer is c, federal medallion.

Are you right? The person who takes the exam, already a bit confused.

One more question: what is the responsibility of Australian citizens aged 18 and over?

    3 option 1:

    A) serving the local community

    B) bring your passport with you at all times

    C) under summons to join a jury

The answer is c, called to the jury.

    Is this a simple question?

Next, it seems that a lot of people are going to open Google!

Q: what happened in Australia on January 1, 1901?

    3 option 1:

    A) Australia has changed its constitution through a referendum

    B) entry into force of Australia`s Constitution

    C) Establishment of Australian and New Zealand Army forces

The answer is b, Australia`s constitution is in effect.

People in the examination room frown and answer questions seriously, but these questions are really not easy!

After the choice question, it is the reading comprehension.

A manual is given in the test paper, asking you to read and answer questions. This is also the type of questions that will be used in the reformed naturalization test.

In the process of answering questions, we all feel that these questions are much more difficult than imagined!

After handing in the paper, everyone said that the feeling about the set of questions was "Shocking" (shock).

    One woman asked this question:

"even Australians will find it difficult to answer these questions, and I don`t think if they were new immigrants, they wouldn`t be able to answer them at all," he said.

"more importantly, what does this test have to do with Australians` self-worth? It tests our ability to read and write English and understand it in English. That`s all. It has nothing to do with citizenship. "

The boy said he would still find it difficult to do the problem 20 more times.

Others feel that their "naturalization application may be rejected".

"it`s like a school exam," the girl said. "the answers are hidden in reading comprehension questions. It`s not easy to find the right answers." It`s really hard, but I think I`m doing fine.

The uncle said: `these questions are easy for me, but if they are really used in the naturalization exam, they should be made simpler as appropriate. My wife is a new immigrant, but these questions will not be easy for her.

    Okay! It`s time for grades!

The girl, who found the test difficult, got a full mark.

The old lady is one point short of the full mark.

There was also a group of people, each getting more than 80 points 90 points.

Unfortunately, out of a total of 13 participants, only nine passed.

Yes, there are four Australians who failed the naturalization test.

After the test, most people said they felt "more like an Australian".

But two testers took a different view of the meaning of the test and argued.

In the following image, this aunt is deeply impressed by the significance of the naturalization examination:

    She said:

"We are all Australian citizens, no matter who, as long as you live in Australia, you should know these questions in the test."

On the other hand, the woman below makes a different point of view:

    She said:

"as a person who has been educated in Australia since primary school, these questions are quite simple to me. But I can`t imagine a newcomer learning so much about Australia`s history that the test is too difficult for them. Goverment should be made less difficult. Of course, this is my personal opinion. "

"if you want to stay in Australia, you have to take some time to get to know this country!"

All right, readers, do you think they all have a point?

    ——————————

Section Four – Read the bee behaviour text and answer questions 13-15 in no more than two words.

[Note: This is an extract from a General Training Reading text on the subject of understanding bee behaviour. The text preceding this extract described Karl von Frisch’s experiments and his conclusions about two bee dances.]

At first, von Frisch thought the bees were responding only to the scent of the food. But what did the third dance mean? And if bees were responding only to the scent, how could they also ‘sniff down’ food hundreds of metres away from the hive, food which was sometimes downwind? On a hunch, he started gradually moving the feeding dish further and further away and noticed as he did so that the dances of the returning scout bees started changing. If he placed the feeding dish over nine metres away, the second type of dance, the sickle version, came into play. But once he moved it past 36 metres, the scouts would then start dancing the third, quite different, waggle dance.

The measurement of the actual distance too, he concluded, was precise. For example, a feeding dish 300 metres away was indicated by 15 complete runs through the pattern in 30 seconds. When the dish was moved to 60 metres away, the number dropped to eleven.

Von Frisch noted something further. When the scout bees came home to tell their sisters about the food source, sometimes they would dance outside on the horizontal entrance platform of the hive, and sometimes on the vertical wall inside. And depending on where they danced, the straight portion of the waggle dance would point in different directions. The outside dance was fairly easy to decode: the straight portion of the dance pointed directly to the food source, so the bees would merely have to decode the distance message and fly off in that direction to find their food.

But by studying the distance on the inner wall of the hive, Von Frisch discovered a remarkable method which the dancer used to tell her sisters the direction of the food in relation to the sun. When inside the hive, the dancer cannot use the sun, so she uses gravity instead. The direction of the sun is represented by the top of the hive wall. If she runs straight up, this means that the feeding place is in the same direction as the sun. However, if, for example, the feeding place is 40-degrees to the left of the sun, even the dancer would run 40-degrees to the left of the vertical line. This was to be the first of Von Frisch’s remarkable facts about how bees communicate and, in doing so, revolutionise the study of animal behaviour generally.

    Complete the sentences below.

Choose NO MORE THAN TWO WORD from the text for each answer.

    13. Von Frish discovered the difference between dance types by changing the position of the ……….

    14. The dance outside the hive points in the direction of the ……….
