The commander of the u.s. anderson air force base on guam responded friday (september 25) to a video recently released by the chinese air force that appeared to have launched a mock attack on the base, saying it was a "propaganda" from china aimed at coercing and angering the us. According to the commander, military exercises conducted by the United States near Guam were conducted as usual.
The commander of Guam's Anderson Air Force base in the Pacific, Air Force Brigadier General Sloan (Jeremy T.Sloane), responded to a video recently released by the Chinese Air Force that appeared to be a mock bombing of Guam at a conference call Friday between the U.S. military and the media on a military exercise near Guam.
"This is a promotional video... Although we have been concerned about protecting the island and our people, the video itself is purely propaganda aimed at coercing and infuriating us. "
According to the video, a bomb-carrying-6 bomber flew from the base over the desert and fired missiles at targets. The base satellite images shown in the video are similar to Anderson's base, but do not directly mention the name of the base.
The timing of thean said the timing of the video shows they knew the timing of the U.S. military exercise.
China's air force's Weibo account released the video on september 19th called my name god of war. A major two-year American military exercise near Guam lasted from September 14 to September 25.
Chinese government have not commented on the video. To the delight of some Chinese netizens, some of the footage is apparently taken from Hollywood blockbusters like Transformers: Battle of Revenge.
Sloan said the exercise was conducted as usual because "its purpose is to ensure that we are well-trained ready to carry out operations in the India-Pacific region and to support our allies and partners ".
Guam is home to some major US military installations, including Anderson Air Force Base. This is the key to the United States' response to any conflict in the Asia-Pacific region.
On the same day that the Chinese Air Force released the video, the Chinese military conducted the second day of military exercises near Taiwan. The exercise was an expression of anger at the visit to Taipei by Deputy Secretary of State Clarke.
The TW Air Force says the Roo-6 has been involved in several missions around and around TW, including last week's exercise.
