According to the Guardian Essential poll, voters strongly supported Tan Bao`s tax cuts for low-and middle-income earners, but were apparently indifferent to tax cuts for high-income earners.

Poll: more voters support Labour's tax cuts

During the last two weeks of sitting before the winter break, the Senate will decide on the fate of the government`s comprehensive tax cuts bill.

The poll interviewed 1027 voters in two weeks, 79 percent of them in favour of the first-stage tax cuts, but only 37 percent in support of the third phase, which removes one of the tax bands and allows those earning between A $40 and A $ two hundred thousand a year to pay at the same rate.

Polls also suggest that many voters have turned to support the Labour leader`s alternative plan, Schotton (Bill Shorten), to nearly double the tax cuts for low-and middle-income earners and impose higher taxes on the highest earners.

Asked if they were more supportive of Mr. Tan`s government or Labour`s plan, 50 percent of those polled supported the Labor Party`s plan. All income groups expressed support for Labour`s plan, including those earning more than A $2000 a week. Compared with the results after budget week, 5% of voters turned to support Sheldon.

Mr Tan`s government tax cuts for Australia`s largest companies also continue to divide in the polls, with 39 percent in favour and 36 percent in opposition, largely based on partisan positions.

With more than 5 by-elections approaching, Unionparty support slightly rebound. In the bipartisan choice, Labour had a 54:46 lead over the Unionparty two weeks ago, and the gap now narrowed to 52, 000. 48.
