All passengers on board were stranded at Sydney airport on Sunday night when MU736, a Sydney-based flight from China Eastern to Shanghai, was forced to make an emergency landing due to engine failure after taking off, the Daily Telegraph reported. Passengers staying at the airport left on another plane this morning.

At 8:30, China Eastern Flight MU736 took off from Sydney Airport and was forced to return more than an hour later.

This morning, China Eastern Oceania General Manager Zhang Xiaoxi (Kathy Zhang) said the plane was still under investigation at Sydney Airport, but that the airport would provide proper follow-up protection for passengers.

Zhang Xiaoxi said: "on June 11, flight MU 736 from Sydney to Shanghai experienced engine failure after taking off. The crew decided to return to Sydney Airport as soon as they found something unusual with the left engine. Now the flight has landed safely, man-machine safety. Subsequently, passengers were arranged by China Eastern Airlines accommodation. Passengers will be scheduled to fly to their destination on China Eastern or other airlines. "

Residents of (Macarthur), south-west Sydney`s MacArthur district, heard planes banging overhead, Radio 7 reported.

One passenger told the media: "the plane smells a little scorched-I`m scared. We`re all scared." Thank God we`re alive. "

Another passenger said: "there was a Chinese passenger sitting by the window. He should have seen something wrong with the plane, so he waved to the staff and pointed to the window desperately."

Sydney airport was in turmoil this morning after an international flight was forced to move to Brisbane airport and 10 other domestic flights were cancelled.
