Some Australian parents lined up for three nights to sleep in tents outside prestigious schools to ensure that their children get the best education, just to get on the waiting list.

According to the Daily Mail, (Ascot State School), one of the most prestigious schools in Brisbane, has been awarded several awards for excellence in teaching and music and sports programs. The school waiting list is scheduled to open at 8 a.m. on Monday. Over the weekend, parents hoping to get places lined up on the streets outside school, sleeping in tents, sitting in folding chairs and taking turns waiting for the two parents.

Ascot state schools are reported to admit up to 125 students a year, unless there are more children enrolled in the district that year. If there are remaining places, children outside the school district may be opened to school on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are many Asian parents in the queue for school places for their children (pictured on right). (No. 9).


In an interview with parents who lined up at the scene on the 9th, a woman revealed that the line began on Saturday morning and rotated with her husband. Another man said, "to get kids into these schools, you have to do everything you can."
