International students are required to submit their English test scores before they are granted a visa to study in Australia to demonstrate that they have met the minimum English proficiency requirements. The Federal Office of Home Affairs (Department of Home Affairs) recently announced a change in the acceptance of its English test results. Australia`s class 500 student visa applications will no longer accept TOEFL paper and pen (TOEFL PBT) scores as of June.
TOEFL is an English proficiency test conducted by the American Educational Test Service (ETS), which means "the English proficiency test for non-English native speakers" and "TOEFL" for Chinese, which is transliterated as "TOEFL" by TOEFL.
There are three types of TOEFL:
The TOEFL-PBT (paper based test), is a paper test, with a full score of 677.
The TOEFL-CBT (computer based test), also known as the machine test, has a full score of 300.
The TOEFL-IBT (internet based test), also known as the New TOEFL, is an online test with a full score of 120.
The Australian Immigration Service said it would no longer accept TOEFL-PBT (paper based test) scores when applying for an Australian student visa because the test did not provide a good assessment of the applicant`s oral proficiency.
In addition, the PASS level of, OET (Occupational English Test) has been changed: each of the four subjects is at least B level before it can be recognized as PASS..
The Ministry of Immigration also provided the following transitional arrangements:
1. If the applicant completes the examination before October 14, 2017, and submits the language score at the time of submission of the 500 student visa application, the results of the two years prior to the submission of the application may be recognized.
If a 500 student visa application has not been submitted together with the language score, the results of the two years prior to the result of the application may be recognized.
(2) if, after 14 October 2017 and before 6 June 2018, the applicant completes the examination and submits this language score when submitting a visa application for 500 students, The results of the 2 years prior to the submission of the application can be recognized.
Or when submitting a 500 student visa application and failing to submit the language score together, the results of the two years prior to the result of the application may be recognized, but may be required to provide additional supporting materials.
In addition to TOEFL, other English tests currently accepted in Australia include IELTS, Advanced Cambridge English, (Cambridge English: Advanced), PTE academic English and Professional English.
