Hundreds of Qantas (Qantas) passengers angrily said their flight points had been emptied unwittingly because some of Qantas` rules were little known and its co-operation with Australian supermarket giants had changed, the Daily Mail reported.

It is reported that Qantas rules that if passengers do not use flight credits for 18 months in a row, the due points will be cleared. But many passengers were not aware of the rule, so they expressed anger on social media when they discovered that flight points had been emptied.

One passenger wrote that he had accumulated three hundred and sixty thousand flight points by "flying in and out of (FIFO)," and Qantas emptied them with just one e-mail notification.

Other passengers said: "No wonder you have to abandon Qantas and ask Qantas to respect the passengers!"

Qantas, for its part, said it would notify passengers by monthly email of the expiration of its flight points.

A spokesman for the company said it was easy for passengers to keep points active. Even passengers who do not often travel by air can earn or use flight credits in a number of ways, such as using Qantas` Points-earning credit card to buy hamburgers, movie tickets, and so on.

Other passengers said they were not aware of the changes in Qantas`co-operation with Woolworths supermarkets, so they did not keep their points active.

Previously, customers could earn points by shopping on Woolworths, but in 2016, the default option in customers` accounts was changed to a discount on supermarket shopping. If the customer wants to continue to earn points while buying groceries, check this option in the account. But many customers say they didn`t find it until recently, but have exceeded the deadline to keep points active.

Qantas, for its part, said it had been widely publicized at that time when the content was changed.
