Prime Minister Tam Po (Malcolm Turnbull) described North Korea as a "mafia" and called on China to exert economic pressure on it, the Australian newspaper reported.

August 29, North Korea test-fired intercontinental ballistic missile, flying over Japan, triggering international condemnation. "Dialogue is not the solution," President Trump (Donald Trump) said on social media Twitter (Twitter). Prime Minister Tan Po also said military measures were needed to deal with North Korea, but that was not the only way.

On the morning of August 31, Tan Po told news channel 7: "they [North Korea] are bluffing businessmen. "what they want to do is to intimidate other countries and prevent the imposition of sanctions, but that`s why they have to be imposed," he said. Mr Tan then told WSFM Radio: "[North Korea] is like a mafia."

Mr Tan, who is due to take effect next week, says the international community is United against the North Korean regime. "if North Korea were to attack the United States-as they often threatened to do-this conflict would be a suicide note," he said.

Mr Tan once again called on China to use its significant economic clout to restore reason to North Korea while avoiding conflict.

Former Prime Minister Howard (John Howard) attended the Asian Society`s (Asia Society) dinner in Sydney on the evening of the 30th and delivered a speech. He said North Korea currently cast a shadow on all aspects of the Asia-Pacific region.

On the morning of the 31st, Howard reiterated his views. "I don`t think his actions are rational because it is clearly not in the interest of his country to confront the world," he told ABC Radio.

In his dinner address, Howard called on Australia to re-examine open trade and foreign investment. Australia`s diplomatic priorities, he said, should be Asia, but not just Asia. "our closest security ally is the United States," he said.
