Australia will suspend two treaties with Hong Kong, China, extradition treaties and mutual legal assistance agreements because of China's adoption of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Security Law —— the People's Republic of China at the end of June.

The law, commonly known as the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law ", is not in line with the" one country, two systems "promised by China when Hong Kong returned to China in 1997, according to Sue Robertson.

She also said that Australia had signed treaties with Hong Kong on the basis of "one country, two systems ", but those treaties had undergone fundamental changes with the passage of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Act.

It is reported that Australia announced the suspension of extradition treaties and mutual legal assistance agreements.

"Hong Kong and Australia have a good record of cooperation between law enforcement and the judiciary ," Robertson said in a parliament hearings on Thursday ," but it is in Australia's national interest to suspend these treaties until the full meaning of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Act is clear. "

In recent years, the UK, Jane, the US, New Zealand, Germany and France have suspended extradition agreements between Hong Kong.

Australia notified the Hong Kong authorities, on July 9 that it would suspend the extradition agreement, while Hong Kong sent a letter to Australia on July 28 stating that it would also suspend the mutual assistance treaty without justification, and Australia agreed to the decision.
