According to the Daily Telegraph, an apartment complex in Sydney has been controversial because it is named only in Chinese characters. The developers said they hoped to use the Chinese name to increase market competitiveness, make the apartment building more attractive and "directly hit the heart of the buyer." However, the practice caused a strong response from local residents and the city council investigation.

The A $25 million building is located at 1 / 5 (Cliff Rd) Cleveland Road, Yiping, North Sydney, with a total of 141 apartments, the report said. Developer Arise Constructions named the building "Hanlin Garden" and carved it in red on a sandstone wall in front of the building in the hope that the design would attract a particular buyer, the Chinese.

John Zhang (John Zhang), a spokesman for the apartment building, said the building`s name was a direct reference to buyers who liked traditional Chinese culture, and that the Yeping area had many institutions of higher learning. The design "is not limited to bricks and concrete," but also expresses the desire of residents of the apartment to receive a good education, "most of their clients are local Chinese."

But (Parramatta Council), the Balamata City Council, has launched an investigation into possible violations of the rules in the design of the apartment building. A city council spokesman said the city council looked at the records and found that the apartment building could be fitted with sandstone blocks with Chinese characters, but made it clear that it should not appear on the streets.

Baramata councilor and former mayor (Lorraine Wearne) called for developers to put the name of the apartment building in English on sandstone walls. "it`s offensive to use the reputation of our school to sell apartments to buyers who don`t speak our language. It not only bothers me, but also annoys the local people. "

It is understood that the building was completed two months ago, the courtyard of the apartment building also painted Yin and Yang patterns and built a traditional Chinese fish pond.
