The US Secretary of State Pompeo (Mike Pompeo) shelled China for "economic retaliation" against Australia, claiming that the US government fully supported Australia's independent investigation into the source of the new crown virus and that China's contribution to the global fight against the new crown epidemic was negligible.
At the world health conference earlier this week, a motion led by australia and the european union to launch an independent investigation into the new crown virus was approved in full. The day before, china had just announced tariffs of up to 80% on australian barley growers.
The Ministry of Commerce announced on May 18 that:
"On 18 May 2020, the Ministry of Commerce issued proclamations Nos .14 and 15 of 2020, promulgating the final findings of the anti-dumping and countervailing investigations on imports of barley originating in Australia, ruling that imports of barley originating in Australia were dumped and subsidized, that domestic industries suffered substantial harm and that there was a causal link between dumping and subsidies and substantial harm relationship, and deciding to impose anti-dumping and countervailing duties on the above-mentioned products with effect from 19 May 2020 at a rate of 73.6 per cent and a countervailing duty rate of 6.9 per cent for a period of five years.
In response to the application of the domestic barley industry, the Ministry of Commerce issued announcements on November 19 and December 21,2018, deciding to initiate anti-dumping and countervailing investigations on imported barley originating in Australia. After filing the case, the Ministry of Commerce conducted an investigation in strict accordance with the relevant law regulations of China and the relevant rules of WTO, and made the above final ruling. "
Pompeo: China's contribution to anti-epidemic
"The Chinese Communist Party chose to threat Australia with economic retaliation because of their simple request for an investigation into the origin of the virus ," Pompeo said at a media meeting Wednesday (ET Thursday). "
